Frequency Finder

Identify boosted or cut frequency bands — producer ear training

A sound plays flat, then with an EQ boost or cut at a specific frequency. Identify the frequency band. Start with octave-wide bands (250Hz, 1kHz, 4kHz, 10kHz), narrow to 1/3 octave. This is the core skill for mixing and production.

How it works

  1. 1.
    Hear the original
Audio plays with flat EQ for 3 seconds.
  2. 2.
    Hear the altered version
Same audio plays with a 6dB boost (or cut) at a specific frequency band.
  3. 3.
    Identify the frequency
Select the frequency band that was altered. Is it a boost or cut?
  4. 4.
    A/B comparison
Toggle between flat and altered to train your ear on the difference.
